📋 Call Recap — Sept 30, 2026: Global Rollout Strategy & Updates
5 IN 12 Learning Community — Zoom Call Summary
Leaders running 5 IN 12 rollouts around the world checked in on where they are (first touch through Four Fields Intensive), what fruit they’re seeing, and what’s getting in the way. The group then worked through the most common barriers together: getting people to commit to a four-day intensive, moving participants from one-off events into weekly rhythms, and whether to cast the full 5 IN 12 pathway up front.
Key takeaways
- Cast the full vision. Presenting the whole pathway, dates and all, filters for committed leaders and prevents one-off event attendance.
- Weekly rhythms are essential. Find a local insider who owns the weekly gathering, and set that expectation from day one.
- Follow up immediately. When the event ends, the work begins: a Signal group, a clear next-step pathway, and a set weekly meeting time.
- Flex the intensive. A condensed 2–2.5 day intensive works; key leaders can join a full four-day intensive elsewhere later.
- Swarm new launches. Pull leaders in from the surrounding region to build momentum and multiply ownership.
Rollout updates shared on the call
- Atlanta / St. Simons Island, GA — past the third touch; a house church has started
- Chicago, IL — working on the fourth touch
- SF Bay Area, CA — launching in February with a goal of 150–300 at the first touch
- Detroit, MI & New Waverly, TX — first touch scheduled in Detroit; New Waverly in planning
- Lovington, NM — bilingual first touch; ~50 gospel conversations in 45 minutes
- St. Louis, MO — salvations and a baptism in an apartment complex
- Bolivia & Peru — three touches done in Bolivia; a full-year calendar in Peru
- Europe — multiplied from Germany into Italy, Romania & Hungary
- Nepal — 150 leaders mobilized toward 27 rollouts; three already launched

Adapting the four-day intensive
Many participants struggle to commit to four days. Troy shared that a condensed 2–2.5 day format (e.g., all day Saturday and Sunday) has worked in Europe and New Zealand. Don suggested pairing a condensed local training with an invitation for key leaders to attend a full four-day intensive held elsewhere, using a shared calendar.
From “super trainers” to local rhythms
Some participants attend trainings without implementing the work. The group agreed that weekly rhythms are extremely important and depend on a local insider who takes ownership. David stressed immediate follow-up and clear expectations from the start.
Partial vs. full pathway
The group’s experience strongly favors presenting the full vision up front. Being direct about the dates and commitment has drawn an overwhelmingly positive response, while showing only part of the process tends to produce one-off attendance with little long-term fruit.
Read the best practices & tools
- Build a pre-launch coalition. Pull leaders from the wider region to “swarm” a central launch so they catch the vision and carry it home.
- Set expectations early. Local teams commit to leading weekly touchpoints, not just hosting an event.
- Follow up immediately. Start a dedicated Signal group, share a clear next-step pathway, and set a regular weekly time for harvest and accountability.
- Cast the whole 5 IN 12 vision to identify leaders who are serious about the commitment.
- Lean on cross-pollination. Teams across regions and organizations (including e3, Global Gates, and Launch Global) are swarming launches and sharing resources, including Spanish-language support.
- Get your event on the map. A North American website and training calendar is in development. Eventbrite events from the Sent Ones or I Am Second accounts will sync automatically; other events can be emailed to Meredith Curtis.
- Stay connected through the practitioners’ Signal group between calls for questions, updates, testimonies, and support.
📋 Call Recap — 5In12 Best Practices with Troy Cooper
5 IN 12 Learning Community — Zoom Call Summary
The call centered on the 5 IN 12 framework — a systematic approach to disciple-making, church planting, and leadership development built around five trainings spread over roughly 12 months. Troy Cooper walked through the structure and reasoning behind it, stressing that the real goal is identifying and equipping local leaders who can form reproducing apostolic bands. Practitioners from Toronto, Germany, London, New Zealand, and Houston shared their own case studies and in-progress rollouts. Don Waybright’s central contribution was naming the critical success factor: not the trainings themselves, but whether people move into a sustained weekly community of practice between sessions.
Core principles from the call
- Leader-multiplication over event-multiplication
- Success is measured by community, not attendance
- Assess at the 12-month mark, not after each session
- Shrinking attendance is a filter, not a failure
- Follow the Great Commission’s built-in progression
- Relationship happens outside the curriculum
Case studies shared on the call
- Bogotá & Houston (Don Waybright) — citywide rollouts leading to multiple church plants and apostolic teams
- Koblenz, Germany (Troy Cooper) — one committed leader from Training 2 became central to a “1:39” leadership band
- Wellington, NZ (Caleb) — rapid growth from the first training, now spreading to new local sites
- Houston Commands of Christ (Brad) — 8 of 10 targeted unreached people groups adopted by apostolic bands
Read the five trainings, step by step
Precursor — Vision Meeting
Cast vision with prospective partners through case studies and Bible stories, then lock five training dates onto a calendar within a 12–18 month window.
Training 1 — Model (4–8 hrs)
An outside team “swarm trains” the first session — vision, gospel-conversation basics, disciple-making tools, and a cost-counting moment — then sends people out to practice.
Training 2 — Assist (~12 weeks later)
Same content, but local trainers help lead it while the outside team begins identifying emerging local leaders.
Training 3 — Watch
The outside team steps back and watches locals lead — typically where the truly “hungry” leaders become visible.
Training 4 — Four Fields Intensive (ideally 4 days)
Shifts from best practices to biblical principles (Fields 4 & 5), equipping people to start churches with a concrete strategy.
Training 5 — Problem Solving (a weekend)
Invite-only for actual practitioners. Addresses real obstacles and transitions committed leaders into ongoing coaching — a residency or a leadership-development band.
Read the full action plan
- Assemble a catalytic team and hold a vision-casting meeting using story- and case-study-driven communication.
- Lock five training dates onto a calendar within a 12- to 18-month window before doing anything else.
- Recruit 4–8 outside trainers to swarm-train Training 1, then release participants to practice for ~12 weeks.
- Shift leadership gradually across Trainings 2 and 3 — from modeling, to assisting, to watching locals lead.
- Explicitly vision-cast the weekly Commands of Christ time commitment (4–6 hrs/week), and shepherd — don’t just launch — the weekly rollout between trainings.
- Schedule Training 4 as a 2–4 day Four Fields Intensive anchored in the Gospels and Acts.
- Keep Training 5 invite-only for practitioners — the one training worth being selective about.
- Decide deliberately between a single-church, citywide, or hybrid model based on what’s generating traction in your context.
- Transition committed leaders into ongoing coaching after Training 5 — a residency or a leadership-development band.
- Set attendance expectations in advance; assess success only at the 12-month mark.
- Build sustained prayer and fasting for laborers into the whole process.
- Notify Don and Troy when you host a training, so the broader learning community can support and learn from it.
- Register for and attend the next Learning Community call in late September.
